NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin was created on 1 July 2022, replacing NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
They are responsible for planning and buying a wide range of health and care services for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
NHS Shropshire, Telford, and Wrekin Integrated Care Board (ICB) recently had a recruitment need for a Director of Finance, reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, with the substantive post holder leaving after nearly 20 years.
Having worked with the organisation for the last 8 years we were approached to support with sourcing an interim candidate whilst a permanent recruitment process was undertaken. The Director of Finance role is a key leadership role within the ICB and wider health and care system.
The lead recruitment partner for this campaign was Adam Rouse, Senior Business Manager. Adam specialises in finance recruitment within the public and not-for-profit sectors across the West Midlands. Joining Sellick Partnership in March 2014, Adam has built a wide network of candidates within the finance profession, with a particular focus on NHS recruitment. He has an in-depth understanding of the challenges and niches within his specialism, combined with the skills and expertise to assess vacancies and candidates to ensure a credible match.
To gain a comprehensive understanding of the requirement, key challenges, essential criteria and recruitment processes, Adam arranged a job briefing via Teams with key stakeholders, including the Chief Finance Officer. The vacancy was particularly challenging given the length of service of the current incumbent and the associated high expectations, combined with the narrow candidate pool available with the relevant experience and skills, and the urgency of the requirement to enable an effective handover.
NHS experience was essential and having worked within the NHS sector for the last 10 years Adam immediately started mapping his contacts and clients to formulate an initial longlist of potential contacts with the relevant experience and skills. He then conducted market research using LinkedIn to refine his target list of contacts.
Following an extensive headhunt campaign Adam shortlisted and submitted two candidates who met the requirements and were interested in the opportunity. Both candidates were invited in for interview with the CFO.
One of our candidates was successfully offered the post in the interview itself. Adam followed up the offer following the interview and confirmed a start date for 4 weeks later. The successful candidate was one of Adam’s previous NHS clients, who had made a move to the charity sector and was looking to return to the NHS.
